John F. Lawson II

Communications Coordinator

John Lawson II serves as the Communications Coordinator at Operation Restoration. He performs a variety of tasks and is responsible for the oversight of Operation Restoration’s written, oral, and external communications. Lawson is responsible for collaborating with the communications team to strategize social media, newsletter, and other media forms, identify PR opportunities for the organization, and garner awareness for Operation Restoration in New Orleans and nationwide.

 

Before joining Operation Restoration, John served as Press Secretary for Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the City of New Orleans, where he demonstrated his proven expertise in media relations, social media, copywriting and editing. Prior to his initial appointment with the Mayor’s Office of Communications, Lawson wrote marketing-related copy, provided branding research assistance and led various creative projects for local businesses and community organizations both in New Orleans and Shreveport. He also interned with the Essence Festival of Culture, as well as the Urban League of Louisiana and American Honda Motor Company, based in California.

Born and raised in Shreveport, Lawson received his Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Dillard University and his Master of Science in Public Relations from the University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Communication. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

John is passionate about amplifying the voices of those that reflect the community he lives in and serves. At Operation Restoration, he is looking forward to combining his love for communications and public relations with his passion for helping and watching others grow and succeed, regardless of their background or past circumstances.
